Most of Middle Sister is covered in loose rock and scree - probably from ancient eruptions from neighboring South Sister and Broken Top.  Amazingly, plants can survive in these harsh conditions at 8,500 feet in elevation.  If nothing else, it proves that dandelions can grow anywhere!
