The second half of the Wy'East Route on Mount Hood, climbs up to the East side of the Steel Cliffs, along the Crater Rim to The Chimney and up a steep pitch to the 11,239-foot Summit.  The route is long, fairly steep and crosses the White River Glacier early in the trek.  The last portion of the climb can be difficult, especially in late June, as much of the snow is gone and only rotten rock remains.  The risk of avalanche and rock fall in the area near The Chimney can be high at times.  It took us almost 14 hours to make the round trip!
