Similar to Mount Hood, Mount Adams and the other Cascade volcanoes, South Sister casts a shadow on the Western horizon during the sunrise on clear days (like this one).  This fairly rare phenomenon is called the "Specter of the Brocken". August 11, 2001   Close Window
