SADDLE MOUNTAIN STATE PARK, OREGON
January 6, 2001

At 3,283 feet above sea level, Saddle Mountain is the tallest peak in the northwest part of Oregon.  Standing 12 miles east of Seaside and 17 miles south of Astoria, the triple peak provides a panoramic view including the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River and the FIVE major volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range - Mounts Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, Hood and Jefferson!  We hiked this moderately rugged mountain on a beautiful, sunny and fairly warm (55 degrees) January afternoon and the view was absolutely tremendous!  We could see 128 miles north to the Olympic Mountains near Seattle and 125 miles southeast to Mount Jefferson in Central Oregon.  The snow covered peaks of Mounts Rainier, St. Helens and Adams were vivid and beautiful.  Check out my pictures by clicking on the thumbnails below.
